Day 2

9:00 hrs Demonstrating Impact: linking Performance Indicators and Strategic Objectives (QZ 105)

  • "Key Performance indicators (KPIs) are core measures that gauge the performance of an organization in a particular area. They tell us how the organization has performed in the past and how it is performing now". This quotation from a UK Hospital Trust web site is an example of how "performance indicators" is understood by many organizations. Measuring the return on investment in resources is part of most organizational cultures and performance indicators have emerged as the current thinking around how to do this. So information and library managers are not alone in trying to determine what should be measured, rather what can be measured, in order to ensure and demonstrate RoI. This session will look at the purpose and practice of measuring performance. It will: consider some of the performance indicators used and provide illustration of some methods; demonstrate a process to help determine how KPIs can be identified and used; discuss the issues around performance management systems.
Angela Abell
Director and Senior Advisor, TFPL, UK

The planning and execution as well as the communication with employees and unions will be discussed.

14:00 hrs Making Sense of Transforming and (Off)sourcing Corporate Libraries (QZ 105)

  • What's the value of the contribution made by the products, processes and services delivered by the corporate library in an organization? Value is increasingly derived from non-financial, intangible assets. A major challenge for corporate libraries is to become visible and contribute to the key business processes of an organization. Knowing how to build value into a corporate library, expand and determine its value for internal en external stakeholders and getting things done by developing an intricate network of relationships through Service Level Agreements will settle whether the corporate library is here to stay.
