For Ticer alumni, there is a special discount of 150 Euro per person, per course. Other discounts do not apply.

Value Added Tax (VAT) and foreign participants
Because the Summer School courses are held in the Netherlands, Ticer has to comply with Dutch tax law. We are therefore obliged to add 19% value added tax (VAT) to the fee of these courses. For you as a foreign participant, it is possible to reclaim the VAT from your country's tax authorities, because it can settle things with the Dutch tax authorities. Please contact your own tax authorities for more information.

Elsevier Foundation Grants
The company Ticer cannot provide scholarships itself, but participants from developing countries can apply for an Elsevier Foundation Grant for the course "Libraries, Electronic Resources, and Electronic Publishing", made available by the Elsevier Foundation.

The Elsevier Foundation are willing to sponsor 4 participants from Asia, Africa and South America. You can only apply for a grant if you originate from a country which is mentioned in the first five columns of the OECD "DAC List of Aid Recipients as at 1 January 2003", countries indicated in this list as developing countries and territories (official development assistance). The grant includes:

  • the course fee (including 3 lunches and 3 dinners);
  • accommodation in a student room for the duration of the course;
  • an economy class return flight to an airport near Tilburg;
  • travel and health insurance during your stay in Tilburg.
The sponsorship does not cover costs which are not mentioned above, e.g., visa fee, transportation in your own country, transportation in the Netherlands from the airport to Tilburg and back, breakfasts, remaining dinners and lunches, and personal expenses.

If you want to apply for this grant, please send an email to the course coordinator Ms. Jola Prinsen at Jola.Prinsen@uvt.nl before 1 May 2003. The email should contain the following information:

  • what organisation you work for;
  • what your job title is and what your work entails;
  • what country you are from;
  • a short biography or curriculum vitae;
  • your motivation to apply for this course;
  • why you are the right person to sponsor;
  • how you intend to distribute the knowledge your gained during this course in your country;
  • what kind of activities your institute develops in the field of digital libraries.
Incomplete applications will not be taken into consideration. Please do not fill out the official application form, because you will then be treated as a normal applicant and will thus receive an invoice for your participation.

Registration
You can apply for one or more courses, until two weeks before the start of the course. To get maximum benefit from the courses on Leaders' Visions on the Library of the Future and Change: Making it Happen in your Library, we advise libraries to send more than one senior delegate from their institutions to these courses (2 - 3 ideally).

The application form is electronically available. You can also request a paper application form by sending an email to ticer@uvt.nl or a fax to +31 13 466 83 83, or by calling +31 13 466 83 10.

Besides the application form, Ticer also requires

  • a short text (max. 50 words) explaining your expectations of the course;
  • a short biography (max. 100 words) with information about your current/previous work, education, and personal interests;
  • a (paper or electronic) passport photo.
We will use the first to fine-tune the course and the other two to introduce you to the course director, lecturers, and other participants. You can find examples on the course websites.

After receiving the application form, Ticer will send you an invoice (which is not a pro forma invoice!). This invoice must be settled within 42 days. If you apply less than 42 days prior to the start of the course, the term of payment is reduced. The invoice should then be settled at least one week prior to the start of the course. The term of payment is indicated on the invoice. The course fee is payable in Euros. After the invoice is sent, the course fee is always payable, unless cancellation has been received under the terms stated below.

Acceptance of application
Your application will only be accepted upon receipt of payment within the term of payment. Upon receipt of payment, your name will be mentioned in the list of accepted participants on our web site. A limited number of 45 places is available for all courses (of which 15 places for participants from the Netherlands). If you fail to pay your invoice within the term of payment, Ticer has the right to give priority to other applicants. A failure to pay your invoice in time is not considered a cancellation. See the cancellation terms below.

Cancellations and substitutions
If notice of cancellation (in writing or by telefax) is received at least 90 days before the start of the course, we will refund the course fee. For cancellation and refunding, a handling fee of 150 Euro will be charged. Cancellations received after this date cannot be accepted for refund. Substitutions may be made at any time. A failure to pay your invoice in time is not considered a cancellation and will not acquit you of your debt to Ticer.

Accommodation
Upon request, Ticer can arrange accommodation during all courses. More information about the accommodation is or will become available via the webpage with practical information for participants. Please indicate on your registration form whether Ticer should arrange your accommodation. We will then contact you about the details.

Health insurance
Participants must have health insurance that is valid in the Netherlands.

Certificates
Those participants who actively participate in a course and attend all presentations and workshops will receive a certificate at the end of the course. Course directors take the final decision in this.

Cancellation of courses
Ticer reserves the right to cancel courses if the number of applications is insufficient to cover our costs. If the course is cancelled, we will refund your course fee.
