International Summer School on the Digital Library 2003, Libraries, Electronic Resources, and Electronic Publishing

Target group and learning objectives

The "Libraries, Electronic Resources, and Electronic Publishing" course is designed for library managers/directors, IT or systems librarians, licensing officers, and digital library project managers from academic and research libraries. The course is also highly relevant for publishers.

Lectures, workshops, and discussions will be in English. There will be much interaction and delegates are expected to be able to participate. It is, therefore, essential that they have a good command of the English language. All courses will draw heavily on European and North American best practice.

Participants should leave the course with:comments Gerry

  • a sound knowledge of the current changes in the information chain and possible roles and opportunities for libraries;
  • insight into the strategies of other (commercial and scholarly) players on the market;
  • knowledge of relevant copyright issues and of different approaches toward licensing and forming consortia;
  • practical techniques of negotiating with suppliers;
  • knowledge of a selected number of technological issues in electronic publishing.
